Albacore Program

Learn to Sail
Learn to Race
with the
WRSC Albacore Fleet

Sailing is one of the quality lifestyle offerings of the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area, and access to sailing is easy.  The Albacore dinghy, with two area fleets, is one of the most popular boats for couples, parents and children and sailors of all ages. It is easy to learn and will challenge you for a lifetime.  Ask any of the hundred or so active Albacore sailors, they will confirm.

The West River Albacore program is committed to making sailing accessible to all- and you don’t even need to own a boat. Members of the West River Albacore Fleet have come together to make several Albacores available for use on a shared basis. For those who join this program, we offer training and the use of an Albacore during club activities. Participation is limited to four shares per available boat.  WRSC is one of the most affordable sailing clubs in the area and the “provisional” membership makes it very affordable to try for a season while you meet new friends and explore if sailing is right for you.

When: Two series of four classes on weekends in spring and summer 2010
• Start time is 1000 for Learn-to-Sail, 1330 for Learn-to-Race
• Classes will run for about 2.5 to 3 hrs

Cost:
• Joining with “Provisional Status” to the West River Sailing
Club $286
• Learn-to-Sail classes with Albacore fleet $25 per person
• Learn-to-Race classes with Albacore fleet $25 per person
• For use of an Albacore* join the Albacore Fleet Shared
Boat Program for the season $150

For less than the cost of travel to many destinations, you can have over 20 weeks of fun, meet new people and learn to sail.  Make this summer the summer you take that first step in fulfilling your dreams to sail. If you like it, you can become a full member later, and continue sharing for next year, or maybe upgrade to your own boat.

*Use of the Albacore Fleet boats is coordinated by the West River Albacore Fleet and requires membership of WRSC and a small $150 annual fee to cover maintenance and storage expenses of the fleet boats.  WRSC offers a provisional status membership that lets you try out the club for a significantly reduced seasonal fee. (Insert pointer to Membership)  If you are already an experienced sailor who wants to try an Albacore for the season, please contact us and we can provide a brief familiarization and check-out for you in lieu of participating in the training program.
